Southeast Asia Adventure: Bangkok, Thailand

The cold and gloomy weather outside has inspired me to bring the blog back! These photos are way over due..Here's where mine and Jacki's backpacking adventure began, in Bangkok, Thailand in April 2011. We only spent about 2 days here..

our first tuk tuk ride...this guy totally scammed us.. (tuk tuk = a motorbike with a trailer-type thing with benches hooked to it)

boat ride

boat merchants selling tourist crap..

fresh fruit everywhere! vibrantly colored and delicious!

thai coca-cola. you can drink it from the can, or from a bag of ice..yes, a bag.

khao san road, the backpacker's main drag.

pad thai for $1.25!

YUM.

their electrical wires are out of control. could you imagine being the cable guy?

fresh coconuts were a life saver on those hot days. mmmmm..electrolytes!

Jacki

tall standing buddha..he was under construction, but still pretty neat to see.

 his feet were HUGE

dinner in Silom..

more fresh fruit..

walking through the market by Khao San Road...I have no clue what most of the food items were..

fresh orange juice..

pink taxis...taxi fares were negotiable..usually best to just go by the meter though. sometimes it took a few tries to get a driver that would actually agree to that..we found that the younger the driver (tuk tuk or taxi) the less likely they were to scam you.

this lady makes a mean green chicken curry..

after finding out the Thai new year was quickly approaching us, and we would be stuck in Bangkok for the next 6 days, we booked an overnight train ticket to Chaing Mai. it was a 12 hour train ride..

our bunks...I had the bottom, Jacki the top, and some other guy had the bottom bunk across from us..
